Axaban-Denk 2.5 mg contains apixaban, an oral anticoagulant medication.
It is primarily used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in conditions such as non-valvular atrial fibrillation, to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) after surgery, and to treat or prevent recurrent DVT and PE.
Apixaban belongs to the class of drugs known as direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) or factor Xa inhibitors.
Its mechanism of action involves selectively blocking factor Xa, an important enzyme in the blood clotting process, thereby preventing the formation of fibrin clots.
The medication is typically available in tablet form and taken orally, usually twice daily, with or without food. The exact dosage and duration depend on the medical condition being treated.
Common side effects include bleeding, bruising, and in some cases, gastrointestinal discomfort. Serious bleeding events can occur, so patients should be monitored closely.
