Description
Betatop 12.5mg tablet contains carvedilol, a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker and alpha-1 blocker. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack. Carvedilol works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing the heart rate, which decreases the heart’s workload and helps it pump more efficiently.
The tablet is taken orally, usually twice daily with food to reduce the risk of orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing). The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the individual’s condition and response to therapy.
Common side effects may include dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and weight gain. Serious side effects can include slow heart rate, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the extremities. It is important to monitor blood pressure and heart rate regularly during treatment.
Carvedilol should be used cautiously in patients with asthma, certain heart conditions, or liver problems. It is not recommended for individuals with severe heart failure or certain types of heart rhythm disorders. Patients should consult their healthcare provider before starting carvedilol to ensure it is appropriate for their condition.
