Description
Beuflox D Eye Drop is a topical medication combining ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone.
**Drug Class:** Antibiotic and corticosteroid combination.
**Primary Medical Uses:** Used to treat bacterial eye infections and associated inflammation, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, and post-operative inflammation.
**Mechanism of Action:** Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, preventing DNA replication and leading to bacterial cell death. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by inhibiting the migration of leukocytes and reversing increased capillary permeability.
**Common Forms:** Ophthalmic solution (eye drop) containing 0.3% ciprofloxacin and 0.1% dexamethasone.
**Dosage Instructions:** For eye infections, instill one drop into the affected eye every four to six hours. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to one drop every two hours. For ear infections, such as acute otitis externa, instill four drops into the affected ear twice daily for seven days.
**Side Effects:** Possible side effects include eye irritation, discomfort, increased intraocular pressure, burning sensation, eye itching, and blurred vision. Rare side effects may include dizziness.
**Contraindications and Precautions:** Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or other quinolones. Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, cataracts, or a history of eye herpes simplex infection. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
**Storage:** Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shake well before each use.
Beuflox D Eye Drop is intended for the treatment of bacterial eye infections and associated inflammation when used as directed.
