Description
Blumotim Eye Drop is a combination ophthalmic solution containing brimonidine and timolol, used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in conditions such as glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Drug Class: Combination of an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist (brimonidine) and a beta-adrenergic blocker (timolol).
Mechanism of Action: Brimonidine decreases the production of aqueous humor and increases its outflow from the eye, while timolol reduces aqueous humor production by blocking beta receptors. Together, they effectively lower intraocular pressure to help prevent optic nerve damage.
Common Forms: Ophthalmic solution available in dropper bottles.
Dosage Instructions: Typically, one drop is applied to the affected eye(s) twice daily, usually 12 hours apart, or as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Care should be taken to avoid contamination by not touching the dropper tip to the eye or other surfaces.
Side Effects: May cause eye irritation, burning or stinging, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, fatigue, or allergic reactions like eye redness and swelling. Systemic effects such as low blood pressure or slowed heart rate may occur but are less common.
Contraindications and Precautions: Should not be used by individuals with certain heart conditions, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or known hypersensitivity to any components. Use caution in patients with low blood pressure or depression. Consult a healthcare provider if pregnant or breastfeeding.
