Description
Bonjela Adult Gel is a topical oral gel used to relieve pain and inflammation in the mouth and gums. It is commonly applied to soothe mouth ulcers, denture irritation, teething pain, and other minor oral irritations.
Drug Class: Topical oral analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
Mechanism of Action: Contains active ingredients such as choline salicylate (a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory agent) and cetalkonium chloride (an antiseptic). Choline salicylate reduces pain and inflammation by blocking the action of chemicals that cause these symptoms. Cetalkonium chloride helps prevent infection by killing bacteria in the affected area.
Common Forms: Available as a gel in small tubes (usually 8.3g).
Dosage Instructions: Apply a small amount of gel directly to the affected area inside the mouth up to 3 to 4 times daily, after meals and at bedtime. Avoid swallowing the gel. Use for up to 7 days unless directed otherwise by a healthcare professional.
Side Effects: May include mild irritation, burning sensation, or allergic reactions in some individuals.
Contraindications and Precautions: Not recommended for children under 16 years old unless advised by a healthcare professional. Avoid use if allergic to salicylates or any other ingredients in the gel. Use with caution in individuals with bleeding disorders or aspirin sensitivity. Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
