Description
CafeGOT Tab is a medication primarily used for the treatment of migraine headaches.
It is a combination drug containing caffeine, ergotamine tartrate, and paracetamol (acetaminophen).
The drug class includes analgesics, vasoconstrictors, and migraine-specific treatments.
The mechanism of action involves ergotamine causing constriction of dilated blood vessels in the brain, which is believed to contribute to migraine pain. Caffeine enhances the effect of ergotamine and also acts as a mild stimulant, while paracetamol provides pain relief by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
CafeGOT is available in tablet form for oral administration.
Dosage is usually individualized but often involves taking one tablet at the onset of migraine symptoms; additional doses may be taken as per medical advice, with recommended limits to avoid overuse.
Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, increased blood pressure, and potential ergotism symptoms if overdosed. It is contraindicated in patients with certain cardiovascular diseases, pregnancy, and in those with sensitivity to its components.
Use of CafeGOT should be under medical supervision, especially in patients with underlying health conditions.
