Description
Cefepime injection 1g is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of serious bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, and febrile neutropenia.
Cefepime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to the destruction of the bacteria. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including some resistant strains.
The drug is administered by injection, typically intravenously or intramuscularly.
The usual adult dosage varies depending on the severity and type of infection but generally ranges from 1g to 2g every 8 to 12 hours. Dosage may be adjusted for patients with kidney impairment.
Common side effects include pain or irritation at the injection site, rash, diarrhea, nausea, and allergic reactions. Serious side effects may include neurotoxicity and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea in some cases.
Cefepime is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefepime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins. Caution is advised in patients with kidney dysfunction or a history of seizures.
Medical supervision is required to monitor treatment effectiveness and adverse events.
