Cefotaxime 1g injection (Troge) contains cefotaxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, abdominal infections, septicemia, meningitis, and bone and joint infections.
Cefotaxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The medication is administered by injection, either intravenously or intramuscularly.
Typical dosing for adults ranges from 1g to 2g every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection. Dosage and treatment duration vary based on the infection and patient response.
Common side effects include pain or irritation at the injection site, diarrhea, rash, allergic reactions, and possible effects on liver function or blood counts.
Cefotaxime is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to cefotaxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin antibiotics. Caution is advised in patients with kidney or liver impairment.
Medical supervision is required during treatment to monitor for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
