Cefotaxime injection 500mg is a generic form of cefotaxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, abdominal infections, septicemia, meningitis, and bone and joint infections.
Cefotaxime works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, causing bacteria to die. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The medication is administered by injection, either intravenously or intramuscularly.
