Description
Ceftriaxone Injection 1g (Habixone) contains ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including severe respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, abdominal infections, septicemia, meningitis, and gonorrhea.
Ceftriaxone works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. It has a broad spectrum of activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The drug is administered by injection either intravenously or intramuscularly.
Dosage varies depending on the type and severity of infection, typically ranging from 1g to 2g once daily or divided into two doses. The duration of treatment depends on the clinical response and type of infection.
Common side effects include pain or swelling at the injection site, diarrhea, rash, and allergic reactions. Less commonly, it may cause changes in blood counts or liver enzyme levels.
Ceftriaxone is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins. Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment. It may interact with calcium-containing solutions and other drugs.
