Cetirizine Tablet 10mg (UK) 30’s contains cetirizine hydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms. It is commonly used for conditions such as hay fever (allergic rhinitis), urticaria (hives), and other allergic skin reactions.
Cetirizine works by blocking histamine receptors in the body, reducing symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.
The tablets are taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food.
The standard adult dose is 10 mg once daily. For children aged 6 years and older, the dose is typically 5 to 10 mg once daily, based on medical advice.
Common side effects can include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and fatigue. This medication has a lower risk of causing sedation compared to first-generation antihistamines.
Caution should be exercised in individuals with kidney impairment. It is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cetirizine or related substances. Alcohol and other sedative medications may increase drowsiness when taken with cetirizine.
