Cetrizan Tablet 10mg contains cetirizine hydrochloride as its active ingredient. It is an antihistamine medication used primarily to relieve allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching caused by hay fever, urticaria (hives), and other allergic skin conditions.
Cetirizine belongs to the drug class called second-generation antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.
The tablet form is usually taken orally, once daily, with or without food.
Typical dosage for adults and children over 6 years is 10 mg once daily. For children aged 2 to 6 years, the dose is usually 5 mg once daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, and headache. It is generally well tolerated with a low risk of sedation compared to first-generation antihistamines.
Cetrizan should be used cautiously in patients with kidney impairment and avoided in those allergic to cetirizine or hydroxyzine. Interactions with alcohol or other sedative medications can increase drowsiness.
