CHLORAMPHENICOL EYE DROPS are an antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other superficial bacterial eye infections.
Chloramphenicol belongs to the class of antibiotics known as broad-spectrum antibiotics. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which prevents bacteria from growing and multiplying.
The drops are applied topically to the affected eye, usually one to two drops every two to four hours, depending on the severity of the infection, or as directed by a healthcare provider. It is for external use in the eyes only.
Common side effects may include mild eye irritation, burning, stinging, or redness. Allergic reactions are rare but possible.
The drops should not be used by individuals with known hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol. Prolonged or unnecessary use should be avoided to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Patients should use the eye drops according to medical directions and complete the prescribed course of treatment.
