Description
CHLORAMPHENICOL EYE OINT is an antibiotic ointment used to treat bacterial eye infections such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other superficial eye infections.
Chloramphenicol belongs to the class of antibiotics known as broad-spectrum antibiotics. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which stops the growth and multiplication of bacteria.
The ointment is applied topically inside the lower eyelid, usually two to four times daily, or as directed by a healthcare provider. It is intended for external use in the eyes only.
Common side effects may include eye irritation, burning, redness, or itching. Allergic reactions are rare but possible.
Use is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol. Prolonged use should be avoided to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Patients should follow dosage instructions carefully and complete the full course of treatment as prescribed.
