CHLORHEXIDINE OINT (CHLORXY G) contains chlorhexidine, an antiseptic and disinfectant used primarily to prevent and treat infections in minor cuts, wounds, burns, and skin infections. It is also used for skin cleansing before surgical procedures.
Chlorhexidine belongs to a class of antiseptics. It works by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to the death of bacteria and other microbes.
The ointment form is applied topically to the affected area, usually once or twice daily, or as directed by a healthcare provider. It is intended for external use only.
Common side effects may include mild skin irritation or redness at the application site. Allergic reactions are rare but possible.
