Cilostazol 100 mg tablet is a medication used primarily to treat intermittent claudication, a condition characterized by pain and cramping in the legs due to poor blood circulation often caused by peripheral artery disease.
Cilostazol belongs to the class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase III inhibitors. It works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase III, leading to increased levels of cyclic AMP in blood vessels and platelets. This results in vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and inhibition of platelet aggregation, improving blood flow and reducing symptoms.
The tablets are taken orally, usually twice daily, about 30 minutes before or two hours after breakfast and dinner. Dosage should be based on a healthcare provider’s recommendation.
Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, dizziness, and palpitations. Cilostazol is contraindicated in patients with heart failure or certain heart conditions.
Patients should inform their healthcare provider about their full medical history and any other medications they are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and schedule, and consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice and safety information.
