Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This action leads to the death of susceptible bacteria.

Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and rash.
