Nexium 10mg Sachets contain esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production.
**Primary Uses:**
– Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in children aged 1 to 11 years.
– Healing of erosive reflux esophagitis.
– Symptomatic treatment of GERD.
– In combination with antibiotics for the treatment of duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori in children over 4 years of age.
**Drug Class:**
– Proton pump inhibitor (PPI).
**Mechanism of Action:**
– Esomeprazole inhibits the proton pump in stomach lining cells, reducing gastric acid secretion and promoting healing of acid-related conditions.
**Common Forms:**
– Oral granules for suspension, 10mg strength.
**Dosage Instructions:**
– For children aged 1 to 11 years with a body weight of ≥10 kg:
– Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis:
– Weight ≥10 – <20 kg: 10 mg once daily for 8 weeks.
– Weight ≥20 kg: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 8 weeks.
– Symptomatic treatment of GERD:
– 10 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks.
– For children over 4 years of age:
– In combination with antibiotics for the treatment of duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori:
– The dose is based on the child's weight, and the doctor will decide the correct dose.
– For patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets, Nexium oral suspension may be used.
**Side Effects and Cautions:**
– Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and flatulence.
– Long-term use may increase the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency or bone fractures.
– Not suitable for individuals allergic to esomeprazole or other PPIs.
– Use with caution in patients with severe liver or kidney problems.
– Inform healthcare providers about all other medications to avoid interactions.
