NOLICIN 400mg contains norfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
**Primary Uses:**
– Treatment of uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), including cystitis and prostatitis.
– Management of bacterial gastroenteritis.
– Treatment of sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea.

**Mechanism of Action:**
– Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, preventing DNA replication and transcription, thereby stopping bacterial growth.

**Dosage Instructions:**
– For uncomplicated UTIs: 400 mg twice daily for 3 days.
– For complicated UTIs: 400 mg twice daily for 7-10 days.
– For bacterial prostatitis: 400 mg twice daily for up to 12 weeks.
– Take tablets with a glass of water, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals or dairy products.
– Avoid taking antacids, multivitamins, or supplements containing iron or zinc within 2 hours of taking NOLICIN.
**Side Effects and Cautions:**
– Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, and sleep disturbances.
– Serious side effects may include tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects such as seizures or mood changes.
– Contraindicated in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to quinolone use, and in children and adolescents during growth periods.
– Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, renal impairment, or those taking corticosteroids.
– Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds during treatment due to increased photosensitivity.
