Ortacta Rivaroxaban 10 mg Tablets are anticoagulant medications used to prevent and treat blood clots.
Primary Uses:
– Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), especially after surgeries such as hip or knee replacement.
– Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation when 20 mg dosing is unsuitable, often due to renal impairment.
– Treatment of acute DVT and PE in certain dosing regimens.
Drug Class:
– Oral direct factor Xa inhibitor, which blocks the activity of factor Xa, an essential component in the blood clotting cascade, thereby reducing the formation of clots.
Common Forms:
– Oral tablets, typically available in 10 mg, 15 mg, and 20 mg strengths.
Dosage Instructions:
– For prevention of venous thromboembolism post-surgery: 10 mg once daily.
– For treatment of DVT/PE or stroke prevention, dosing varies and is normally higher or adjusted based on clinical condition and kidney function.
– Tablets should be taken orally with or without food, usually once daily for prophylaxis.
Side Effects and Cautions:
– Risk of bleeding, which can be serious or life-threatening.
– Common side effects include bleeding gums, nosebleeds, easy bruising, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
– Not suitable for patients with active pathological bleeding or severe liver disease.
– Dose adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired kidney function.
