Permethrin Cream (brands: Scabird, Lotrix, Permiforce) is a topical medication used primarily to treat scabies and lice infestations. It belongs to the class of synthetic pyrethroid insecticides.
Permethrin works by affecting the nervous system of mites and lice, causing paralysis and death of the parasites.
The cream is applied to the entire body from the neck down in cases of scabies or to the affected areas for lice, usually left on for about 8 to 14 hours before washing off. Exact application instructions depend on the condition being treated and should follow healthcare provider guidance.
Common forms include a 5% cream for scabies and a 1% cream or lotion for lice.
