Description
Pirfenidone Tablets 267mg (Pulmofib 267) are used in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a condition characterized by progressive scarring and loss of lung function.
Pirfenidone is an antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory medication that works by reducing the production of growth factors and inflammatory mediators involved in lung fibrosis, helping to slow disease progression.
The tablets are taken orally, typically three times daily with food to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Treatment usually starts with a gradual dose escalation to the full dose to improve tolerance.
Common side effects include nausea, rash, fatigue, diarrhea, indigestion, and photosensitivity (heightened sensitivity to sunlight).
Pirfenidone should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment and is contraindicated in severe liver disease.
Patients are advised to minimize sun exposure and use adequate sun protection during treatment. Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended during therapy.
