Piriton 4mg Tablets contain chlorphenamine maleate, an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as hay fever, urticaria (hives), allergic rhinitis, insect bites, and other allergic reactions.
Chlorphenamine works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergy symptoms.
The tablets are usually taken orally, with the typical adult dose being 4 mg every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 24 mg in 24 hours. For children, dosing is adjusted according to age and weight.
Piriton is available in tablet form and also in other forms such as syrup and injection.
Common side effects can include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Piriton should be used cautiously in individuals with asthma, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, or urinary retention. It may interact with other sedatives, alcohol, or certain medications that cause drowsiness.
It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to chlorphenamine or other antihistamines.
Use under medical advice is recommended, especially in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and in those with preexisting medical conditions.
