Description
Postinor 2 tablets contain the active ingredient levonorgestrel, a synthetic hormone used as an emergency contraceptive to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
It belongs to the class of emergency contraceptive pills.
The mechanism of action primarily involves preventing or delaying ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). It may also alter the cervical mucus to inhibit sperm movement and affect the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation.
Postinor 2 is available in tablet form, typically taken orally in two doses. The usual regimen is to take the first tablet as soon as possible within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse, followed by the second tablet 12 hours later.
Common side effects can include nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, breast tenderness, and changes in menstrual bleeding patterns. It is not intended for regular contraception and should not be used if pregnancy is already confirmed or suspected.
Postinor 2 should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
