Description
Salamol Inhaler is a bronchodilator used to relieve and prevent bronchospasm associated with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory conditions.
**Primary Medical Uses:**
– Provides quick relief from wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing.
– Used as a “reliever” inhaler for acute symptoms or before exercise/triggers.
**Drug Class:**
– Short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA).
**General Mechanism of Action:**
– Stimulates beta-2 receptors in bronchial smooth muscle.
– Causes relaxation of airway muscles, leading to dilation and improved airflow.
**Common Forms:**
– Pressurized metered-dose inhaler (MDI) containing 100 micrograms of salbutamol per actuation.
**Dosage Instructions:**
– **Adults and children over 12 years:** 1–2 inhalations (100–200 micrograms) as needed for relief of acute symptoms, up to a maximum of 8 inhalations in 24 hours.
– **Children under 12 years:** 1 inhalation (100 micrograms) as needed, up to a maximum of 8 inhalations in 24 hours.
– For prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm, 2 inhalations (200 micrograms) should be taken 10–15 minutes before exercise.
– Inhalations should be spaced at least 4 hours apart.
**Side Effects, Contraindications, or Interactions:**
– **Common side effects:** Tremors, headache, palpitations, nervousness, and muscle cramps.
– **Contraindications:** Hypersensitivity to salbutamol or any component of the inhaler.
– **Use with caution in:** Patients with cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes.
– **Potential interactions:** Beta-blockers, diuretics, and other sympathomimetic drugs.
