TOBMENSON EYE DROPS is a combination medication containing tobramycin and dexamethasone.
**Primary Uses:**
– Treats external eye infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis or keratitis accompanied by inflammation.
**Drug Class or Type:**
– Tobramycin: Aminoglycoside antibiotic.
– Dexamethasone: Corticosteroid anti-inflammatory agent.
**General Mechanism of Action:**
– Tobramycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.
– Dexamethasone reduces inflammation by suppressing the production of certain chemicals that cause redness, swelling, and discomfort.
**Common Forms:**
– Sterile ophthalmic solution (eye drops), typically in 5 ml plastic dropper bottles.
**Dosage Instructions:**
– Shake well before use.
– Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours.
– In severe infections, the frequency may be increased to every 2 hours for the first 24–48 hours, then reduced as the infection improves.
– Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface or the eye to prevent contamination.
**Side Effects, Contraindications, or Interactions:**
– Common side effects include temporary burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision immediately after instillation, increased intraocular pressure with prolonged use (risk of glaucoma), eye irritation, redness, or itching.
– Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any of the formulation components.
– Use with caution in patients with corneal epithelial defects or viral eye infections.
