Description
Xarelto 2.5 mg tablets contain the active ingredient rivaroxaban, an oral anticoagulant that belongs to the class of direct factor Xa inhibitors. This low dose is often used in combination with other antiplatelet medications to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack, stroke, or blood clot formation in patients with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).
Rivaroxaban works by selectively inhibiting factor Xa, an enzyme essential to the blood clotting process, which helps prevent the formation of harmful clots.
These tablets are taken orally, generally twice daily, depending on the doctor’s instructions and specific condition being treated. They can be taken with or without food.
Common side effects include bleeding, which may present as bruising, nosebleeds, or prolonged bleeding. Serious bleeding risks exist and patients should report any unusual bleeding or bruising to their doctor immediately.
Xarelto 2.5 mg should not be used in patients with active bleeding or those at high risk for bleeding complications. It is important to follow medical guidance closely and inform healthcare providers of all concurrent medications to avoid interactions. Regular monitoring by a healthcare professional is recommended to ensure safety and effectiveness.
