Description
Xarelto 15 mg tablets contain the active ingredient rivaroxaban, an oral anticoagulant belonging to the class of direct factor Xa inhibitors. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
Rivaroxaban works by selectively inhibiting factor Xa, an enzyme crucial in the blood clotting process, which helps to prevent the formation of harmful clots.
Xarelto 15 mg is taken orally, typically once or twice daily depending on the treatment indication. It is recommended to take the tablet with food to improve absorption and effectiveness.
Common side effects include bleeding, such as bruising, nosebleeds, or prolonged bleeding from cuts. More serious risks involve major bleeding events. The drug should not be used in individuals with active bleeding or certain bleeding disorders, and caution is advised for those with impaired kidney or liver function.
Patients should use Xarelto under medical supervision, following prescribed dosing schedules, and informing their healthcare provider about all other medications being taken to avoid drug interactions.
