Description
Xylometazoline (Muome) 0.1% Spray is a nasal decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, or sinusitis. It belongs to the class of topical nasal sympathomimetic agents.
The primary medical use is to reduce swelling in the nasal passages, allowing easier breathing through the nose.
The mechanism of action involves constriction of the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, which decreases swelling and congestion.
Xylometazoline is commonly available as a nasal spray.
Dosage instructions generally recommend 1 to 2 sprays in each nostril, up to three times daily. It should not be used for more than 3 to 5 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion.
Possible side effects include nasal dryness, irritation, sneezing, and, in rare cases, increased nasal congestion if used for too long. It is contraindicated in individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions and should be used cautiously in patients with hypertension or hyperthyroidism. Avoid use in children under the age specified on the product packaging.
