Description
Xylometazoline (Muome) Drop is a nasal decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion associated with colds, allergies, and sinusitis. It belongs to the class of topical nasal sympathomimetic agents.
Its primary medical use is to reduce swelling in the nasal passages, improving airflow and easing breathing.
The mechanism of action involves constriction of blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, which decreases swelling and congestion.
Xylometazoline is typically available as nasal drops.
Dosage instructions usually recommend instilling 1 to 2 drops in each nostril, up to three times daily. Use should be limited to no more than 3 to 5 consecutive days to prevent rebound congestion.
Possible side effects include nasal dryness, irritation, sneezing, and rarely, increased nasal congestion with prolonged use. It is contraindicated in individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions and should be used cautiously in patients with hypertension or hyperthyroidism.
