Description
Atacand Plus 16/12.5mg is a combination medication containing candesartan cilexetil (16mg) and hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mg).
It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that helps relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that reduces excess salt and water by increasing urine output, contributing to blood pressure reduction.
The combination provides more effective blood pressure control than either agent alone and helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.
The medication is taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food, as prescribed.
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, increased urination, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium), and fatigue.
It is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney or liver impairment, anuria, hypersensitivity to any component, and during pregnancy.
Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes is recommended while on this treatment.
Tablets should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
