Cefuroxime injection 750mg contains cefuroxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and septicemia.
Cefuroxime works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial cell death. It is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The injection is provided as a powder that must be reconstituted with a suitable diluent before administration by intravenous or intramuscular injection.
Dosage depends on the type and severity of infection, patient age, and kidney function. Common adult doses for serious infections range from 750 mg to 1.5 grams every 8 hours. Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney function.
Side effects include pain or inflammation at the injection site, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal symptoms, and less commonly, changes in blood counts or liver function tests.
Cefuroxime injection is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin antibiotics. Caution is recommended in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to these drugs or with renal impairment.
Potential drug interactions exist with aminoglycosides, anticoagulants, and other medications, so treatment should be monitored by a healthcare professional.
