Description
Cefuroxime injection 750mg (Troge) contains cefuroxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It is commonly indicated for infections such as respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, urinary tract infections, and septicemia.
Cefuroxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The drug is supplied as a powder for injection, which is reconstituted with a suitable diluent before intravenous or intramuscular administration.
The dosage and frequency depend on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient factors like age and kidney function. Typical adult dosages for serious infections range from 750 mg to 1.5 grams every 8 hours, administered intravenously or intramuscularly. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with impaired kidney function.
Side effects can include pain or inflammation at the injection site, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, and occasionally changes in blood counts or liver enzyme levels.
Cefuroxime injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin antibiotics. Caution is advised in patients with a history of allergy to these drugs and those with renal impairment.
Drug interactions may occur with aminoglycosides, blood thinners, and other medications, so medical supervision is necessary during treatment.
