Phenobarbitone 30mg tablets are used primarily to prevent and control seizures, including generalized tonic-clonic and partial seizures. Phenobarbitone belongs to the barbiturate class of anticonvulsant medications.
The drug works by depressing the central nervous system and enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, to reduce excessive electrical activity in the brain that leads to seizures.
