Description
Piroxicam Capsules (Letacam) contain piroxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve inflammation, pain, and stiffness caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
Piroxicam works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the production of prostaglandins—substances in the body that cause inflammation and pain.
The capsules are typically available in 10 mg or 20 mg doses, taken orally once daily, with or after food to reduce stomach irritation.
Common side effects may include stomach pain, nausea, indigestion, dizziness, headache, and rash. Serious but less common side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, cardiovascular events, kidney problems, and allergic reactions.
Piroxicam is contraindicated in patients with active gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers, severe heart failure, known hypersensitivity to piroxicam or other NSAIDs, and during the late stages of pregnancy.
Use should be under medical supervision with regular monitoring, especially in individuals with preexisting heart, liver, or kidney conditions.
